There is a misconception that Poland is first and foremost Warsaw. The opinion is based on the fact that the main events of Polish history took place in the capital city, but this is not true. Take a closer look at Poland and see for yourself the rich heritage of its entire territory. Let us have a look at some of its less popular, but no less iconic sights.

The Old Town of Gdańsk

The oldest part of the Polish metropolis Gdańsk attracts attention with its riot of colours and architectural originality. Nature also had a hand in providing spectacular views.

During World War II, much of the area was severely bombed, and as a result, many houses were damaged or destroyed. The 13th and 17th century views were restored after the end of hostilities.

Statue of Christ the King

Not only Brazil can now boast an imposing statue of Christ. In 2010 a statue of Christ the King was unveiled on a hillside towards the city of Svebodzin, which surpassed its Brazilian sister in height, 36 metres. This made it the tallest statue in the world.

The author is a canon by the name of Sylvester Zawadzki. In the evenings, the statue is illuminated. It makes the place truly magical, especially when viewed from below while driving along the track.

Where to have a good time in Poland

Zakopane

Zakopane is an amazing city in the southern part of the Polish state. It is renowned as one of the top winter resorts where you can try out or hone your skills in any winter sport. It is one of the biggest such centres in Europe.

The slopes here are either gently sloping or steep. There are sections where the slopes drop more than 900 metres, and some may even reach 930 metres. The resort offers excellent lodgings with all the relevant facilities and luxurious views from the windows.

Architectural and park complex of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

The monastery complex is a centre of pilgrimages on the territory of Poland. The religious facility is a collection of original buildings assembled into a single structure. It was built in manner of Mannerism.

The grounds are decorated with a luxurious park and some equally luxurious gardens. The construction of the complex took place in the 17th century. This period was marked by the Catholic Church-political movement in Europe. At that time a large number of objects were constructed.

Xiong Castle

Xiong Castle is one of the biggest castle buildings on the territory of Europe. For the inhabitants of Poland the castle is a landmark. A real gimmick of the place is its beech forest surroundings. There are a lot of rhododendrons there.

The castle is situated near the Wałbrzych village. It occupies a rocky promontory with a natural ravine. The castle is often restored, renovated and otherwise maintained and restored.
